Agatti island is the only island in the Union
Territory of Lakshadweep, India that has an airstrip. The island has only
one hotel and supplies are delivered by ship once a week. It is connected to
Cochin airport on the mainland. Indian Airlines and private airline Deccan
airlines operate to this airfield. Other islands are linked by a helicopter
or boat service.
Agatti has one of the most beautiful lagoons in Lakshadweep. The airport is
built on this island. From the aircraft, as guest can approach for a
landing, one can get a breath-taking view of the airstrip on the island.
Agatti is the virtual gateway to the islands. A 20-bed tourist complex with
all modern amenities has been set up here. Indian Airlines operates daily
(except Sunday) flights to Agatti making it one of the most accessible
islands in Lakshadweep.
Agatti and its satellite islands of Bangaram, Thinnakara and Parali presents
a breathtaking spectacle of sparkling coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons,
silvery beaches and lush green coconut palms that sway to the rhythm of the
sea.
Agatti is the only island with an airport. The sea around the island offers
excellent scope for water sports and fishing. Coral growths and multi
