Assam the land of rich, green land of rolling plains and thick forests &
lovely people. The place is the entrance to the north eastern part of India.
Located at eastern Himalayan foothills, Assam is separated by Bangladesh
from mainstream India. The state is bounded in the north by Arunachal
Pradesh and Bhutan; in the east by Nagaland, Manipur, and Burma; in the
south by Bangladesh, Tripura, Mizoram, and Bangladesh; and in the west by
West Bengal. Dispur is the capital of Assam.
The grand Brahmaputra
river that has its origins in Tibet charts its majestic course through this
state. This mystic land of eternal blue hills and beautiful rivers is
renowned for its tea, rich flora and fauna, the world famous one horned
rhinoceros and other rare species of wildlife on the verge of extinction.
Barring Africa, there is perhaps no part of the world where such a variety
of wildlife exists.
Assam is a northeastern state of India with its capital at Dispur. Located just below the eastern Himalayan foothills, it is surrounded
by the other northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur,
Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya. Assam and its commercial capital Guwahati
form the gateway to the northeastern states,together called the seven
sisters. These states are connected to the rest of India via Assam's border
with West Bengal and a narrow strip called the "Chicken's Neck." Assam also
shares international borders with Bhutan, China and Bangladesh.
There are two distinct climates operating in Assam. While the hills enjoy
sub-alpine climate, the plains of the state experience tropical climate with
high humidity level in the monsoon. Winter touches this state in the end of
the month of October and lasts until the end of February. The nights are
cold and the mornings are foggy during this time. Summer begins by mid-May
with high level of humidity and rainfall. June is the beginning of monsoon.
Thunderstorms known as "Bordoichila" is a frequent occurrence during the
afternoons. Spring and autumn with moderate temperatures and modest rainfall
are the best seasons of Assam.

Dibrugarh ::
Dibrugarh district headquarters of Lakhimpur is surrounded by tea gardens,
greenery and inhabited mostly by Bengalis. It is reputed as a commercial
town. Located along the river Brahmaputra.
Guwahati ::
Guwahati, this gorgeous city is the capital of Assam. It is located on banks
of the mighty Brahmaputra river, surrounded by a ring of beautiful mountains
in the North Eastern region of India.
Kaziranga
:: Kaziranga National Park is located on the
south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam. It is famous as a refuge for
the Indian or one-horned rhinoceros.
