Khajjiar is one of the most scenic saucer shaped
plateau and is surrounded by dense pine and deodar forests. Its beauty has
further been enhanced by a small lake in the centre with a floating Island
and a temple of Khajjiar deity. There is plenty of wild life in the forest
and the area has been brought under Wild Life Sanctuary, There is a 9 hole
Golf ground here but is no more in regular use. The lake has been taken up
for improvement. It is known as the Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh. Tourism
accommodation is available for stay.
The history of Khajjiar is linked to the rulers of Chamba. The local Rajput
rulers ruled Chamba valley in the 6th century ad and made it their capital
city. This region became the part of the Mughal Empire in the medieval
period and later came under various Sikh kingdoms. Finally, it was taken
over by the British. It became a part of the state of Himachal Pradesh when
it came into being on April 15, 1948.
Loacation Khajjiar is a small grassy meadow located in the
picturesque Chamba valley. It is an important picnic spot whose quiet
environs beacon the tourists traveling between Dalhousie and Chamba.

TO REACH
By Air - The nearest airport is at Gaggal, in Kangra ( 180 km ).
By Rail - The nearest narrow gauge railhead is Kangra (18 Km). The nearest
broad gauge station Pathankot, (90 Km), is linked to major towns.
By Road - Well connected by road. Some distances are as follows: Delhi 514
Km, Chandigarh 239 Km, Kulllu 214 Km, Shimla 332 Km, Chamba 192 Km.

Khajjiar Lake - It is the magical paradise which
quickly makes you realise that there is no place like this in the
whole world. The magnificent of majestic 'deodar' is at its best here.
Khajjiar lake is associated with a legend, it is associated with
Khajjinag, the deity that is enshrined in the temple here.

Khajinag temple - Khajjiar, known as one of the
most charming spots in the Himalayas, derives its name from its
ancient, golden-domed temple of Khajinag. The 12th-century Khajinag
temple is a small shrine dedicated to the local Goddess or the Devi.
This temple is also known as the Golden Devi temple, as it is adorned
with a golden dome and spire. Pilgrims visiting the Chamba valley
often come to this temple.

Kalatope Khajjiar Sanctuary - It's possible to
trek 30-km from Dalhousie to Chamba along the eastbound road from
Gandhi Chowk. A short but steep ascent leads to the Kalatope wildlife
sanctuary, from which one can walk into a pleasant track.

Nine Hole Golf course - A nine-hole golf course
is an added attraction at Khajjiar.

Kailash View and Horse Riding - On a clear day,
you can see the Mountain Kailash from Khajjiar ground. You can also
enjoy the horse riding here. Some local people are engaged in this
business and you can ride the whole Khajjiar ground (from outside) for
a nominal charge. The riding is very enjoyable, also the horses are
well trained and do not scare you away.

Chamba - Chamba was founded by Raja Varman who named the town
after his daughter Champavati.The small town of Chamba is located amidst the
Shivalik ranges and is famous for its temples.The architecture of the
temples of Chamba reflects the unmatched architectural superiority of the
Indian sculptures. Chamba has a grassy promenade which is the focus for the
Sui Mata and Minjar festivals.

Dalhousie - The hill station of Dalhousie is 22 km from Khajjiar
and is a popular summer retreat set amongst the lower Himalayan
ranges. Dalhousie is a gorgeous hill station located on the western
border of the Dhaula Dhar Range of the great Himalayas. It was founded
in 1854 by the British Viceroy Lord Dalhousie, It was a delightful
summer retreat for the British troops and bureaucrats. Dalhousie is
the most famous hill station of Himanchal Pradesh and is located 563
kms from Delhi. Beside its breath taking landscapes the other
highlights are the ancient temples, untouched beauty of Chamba & Pangi
valley, the valley of milk, honey and streams.

Golden Devi Temple - Adding to the charms of
Khajjiar, which also hugs a golden-domed Devi temple, is a golf course
set in the midst of the idyllic surroundings. The golden spire of the
Devi's abode beckons one to the fringe of the lake.
