Punjab is a beautiful places, the land of five rivers and integrated
cultural history, is a treasure trove for an avid tourist. For this land of
the great gurus not only boasts of ancient monuments but throbs with
historical embodiments. It is no secret that whoever comes to this land of
yellow fields with blue mountains providing the romantic and picturesque
backdrop has never gone back without imbibing the essence of Punjab.
There is no dearth of breathtaking palaces, for Punjab was the seat of
royalty, as the imposing Quila Mubarak will tell you. Museums galore and so
are the religious places with the Golden Temple offering succour to the mind
and soul of any one visiting. If you are a wild life freak, then Punjab can
take you on a tour of the sanctuaries, which are hot favourites with
migratory birds. Since this state borders Pakistan, there are two main posts
from which you can peep into the land that was once an integral part of
Punjab and experience the feelings of the people separated by a line.
Location - Punjab is a land locked states surrounded by Jammu & Kashmir,
Haraya, Himachal Pradesh & it also shares international border with
Pakistan.
The word "Punjab" is a combination of the Persian words 'Panj' five, and 'Aab'
water, giving the literal meaning of the Land of the Five Rivers. The five
rivers which Punjab is named after are the Jhelum; the Chenab; the Ravi; the
Beas and the Sutlej. In 1947, the Punjab was partitioned between
newly-independent India and Pakistan along religious lines, with the mostly
Sikh and Hindu eastern portion to India and the Muslim western portion of
the region going to Pakistan. Punjab is a predominantly agricultural state.
The largest grown crop is wheat. Other important crops are rice, cotton,
sugarcane, millet, maize, barley and fruit. Textiles and flour milling are
the major industries. Road, rail and river transport links are extensive
throughout the region.

Amritsar
:: Amritsar is the most important sacred place of Sikh community,
every Sikh try to visit the Golden temple and bathe in the holy sarovar
(pool) at least once in the lifetime. Golden Temple is the cradle of
Amritsar with the city growing around it nurtured by its divine sanctity.
Chandigarh
:: Chandigarh is beautiful and well planned city completely built
with concret. The city was designed by Le Corbusier, a famous architect from
France. It is a lovely city with lovely people and various tourist
attractions.
Jalandhar
:: Jalandhar, the oldest city of Punjab is also known as the city
of Sports. The city most number of Non Residential Indians, so it is very
modern and rich city. Jalandhar was the capital of the kingdom of lav-kush,
son of Rama. Jalandhar is said to have derived its name from the vernacular
term Jalandhar means area inside the water.
Ludhiana
:: Ludhiana is the largest city in Punjab and is the
crossroads of many different cultures. Ludhiana also happens to be an
important pilgrimage center with a number of Gurudwaras located within and
around the place.
