SAPUTARA

 

Saputara is a beautiful and a densely wooded only hill station town situated in the "Dang" district of southern tip of Gujarat, India.

Saputara has been constructed as a well planned hill station having all necessary serviceableness like hotels, boating parks, swimming pools, club, ropeways, theaters and a museum providing the tourists an delightful vacation in the coziness of the hill station. Saputara is about 170 kilometers from Surat and about 80 kilometers from Nashik. The border of Maharashtra is about 5 km. away from Saputara.

This picturesque hill station is situated on a plateau in the Dang forest area of the Sahyadri Range. Saputara town is situated at an altitude of around 1,000 m with a climate that is pleasant although bit cold, throughout the year. Even the highest temperature in the summer does not exceed 27 degree C. Saputara literally stands for "Abode of Serpent" there is a presence of snake sculpture on the shores of Sarpagana River which flows through the town. This snake sculpture on the shores of Sarpagana River is worshiped by the local tribes on many festivals like Holi. Tribes like Kunbis, Warlis, Bhils and Gamits inhabit Dangs. They are known for their traditional dances, which are performed wearing Bamboo and Wooden masks. The dangs district constitute of an area of 1,752 km..

How to reach

By Road:
You can get to Saputara by From Bombay by Private Tourists bus on alternate days during middle of March to middle of November (Season). From Ahmedabad, Baroda or Surat - ST buses. If your mode of transportation of the tour is car be sure to be safe to refuel it with petrol at Waghai (about 50 kilometers from Saputara) or at a petrol pump 40 kilometers from Nasik before you enter Saputara because in saputara there is no petrol pump.

By Railway:
The nearest railway station is about 50 kilometers from Saputara which is waghai. You can get trains for Nasik, Bilimora, Waghai, Valsadin narrow gauge section. The nearest railway station at Waghai on the Billimora-Waghai section of the Western Railways.


By Air:
Recommended nearest airports are Surat and Mumbai. Nearest is Mumbai. Transportation route from Mumbai airport to Saputara (297.5 kilometers) by road: From Bandra head north on Western Express Highway. Merge onto NationalHighway no.8 and continue towards Chikhli via Navghar, Khanivade, Manor, Kasa Khurd, Talasri, Bhilad, Pardi, Atul and Saron Village distances about 218.0 kilometers

At Chikhli take right onto State Highway no.14 and continue towards Saputara via Bansda and Pimpri distances about 79.5 kilometers

PLACES TO VISIT IN SAPUTARA

Snake of Saputara: A snake sculpture is placed near the stream, at the pedestal of the Saputara Lake. This sculpture is known a snake of saputara. Local tribes including Dangis worship the snake of Saputara.


 

Townview Point: As the name implies this point makes you have a aerial view of the whole saputara town. One can even relax under the naked sky amidst the gentle breeze of the cool & cozy climate while watchingand enjoying the scenic colorful view of saputara town while the whole town looks illuminated with multi-color lightsafter the sunset.

Vansda National Park: This Park is originally private woodland of maharaja of Vansada. This park now covers an area of twenty four square kilometer. Regardless of its small size the park inhabits various dangerously beautiful and wild creatures like tiger, pangolin, giant squirrel, leopard, rusty-spotted cat, python, etc. Advanced permission from the forest department are necessary for visiting this Vansda national park.

Valley view point: As the name implies this point makes you have a aerial view of the whole Saputara valley. Valley view point is on a peak in Saputara location in the Sahyadri range. From the Valley view point one can get a marvelous aerial view ofthe whole Saputara value. More adventure loving travelers goes for a steep climb of the hill to reach to valley view point. Lying on the green velvety lawns to feel the gifts of the nature, valley view point is magnificent.

There is different Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, Jain Temple, Swaminarayan Temple & Bhramha kumari Art Gallery.

Shopping is one of the many tourist attractions of the hill station saputara. One can pick up beautiful artifact and handicrafts including jewelry, key chains, paintings, pen stands, pottery, vases, and maid from bamboo and other local materials. World famous paintings made out of dried fruits are among the main attraction from the saputara to spend you money upon.

When to go
Saputara has a uniform weather all the year. The temperature goes up to as high as 28 c during the summers thus making it the ideal place to spend the summers. One can visit Saputara all year the round.
Best time to visit Saputara is from the middle of the march to the November.
